Softball Team Forfeits 26 Wins Due To Computer Glitch

April 28, 2011 /

Olney Central College’s softball team has had to forfeit 26 wins from the 2011 season after being informed that a recent sports audit by the National Junior College Athletics Association discovered an ineligible player on the OCC roster.

“It was due to an electronic submission problem on the computer when we submitted the original eligibility form,” OCC Athletic Director Dennis Conley said. “The person was eligible but her name didn’t go through and we didn’t catch it.”

The Lady Knights finished the regular season 32-14 (21-9 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference) and received the number-three seed in the Region 24 Tournament but are now seeded eighth following the NJCAA’s stiff ruling.

OCC (6-40) is scheduled to host ninth-seeded Southeastern Illinois (3-26) in a best-of-three play-in series starting today with the winner advancing to face top-seeded Lake Land (36-6).

“It’s very frustrating and I feel really bad for the girls,” OCC head coach Nick Short said. “They worked hard and earned those victories. One name didn’t get submitted and our girls get punished. She had a 3.6 GPA and was perfectly eligible.
